If you work in the field of sales, you know how frustrating generating and closing sales can be. Sometimes it seems like you have hit a wall and just don’t know how to bring in interested people who want to buy your product.
The one thing in selling that will always remain true is that people are willing to spend their hard earned cash on products and services that benefit their life.
You just have to know where to find them. Here are some tips to increase sales by generating viable leads.
1. Use the Internet
There are countless ways to bring in interested customers online; you just have to know what works and what doesn’t. Otherwise, you will waste your time and spend many hours working to generate sales, with nothing in return. Spamming and bombarding people’s Facebook pages is not going to get you any viable leads. As a matter of fact, it may hurt your reputation and turn people away.
Work smart and simple one the internet. Twitter is one of the best untapped resources for generating leads. There is a function called Tweetdeck that allows you track keywords in any messages posted anywhere on Twitter. For instance, if you are trying to sell party supplies you can track the keywords birthday, party, quinceanera, party favors, balloons or anything else related to your product.
Then you can view all of the messages that have been posted that include those keywords. If it looks like the person who posted it might benefit from the product you are selling, go to their profile and get their contact information. When you call or email them make sure to reference the fact that you are calling in regards to a message they posted on twitter. More often than not they will be flattered that someone was following them and surprised at your creativity.
Sales representatives that have used this method have reported great success. This is only one way to generate sales on the internet, and you will just have to research your options and find what works best for you. You can also employ a digital marketing agency or SEO company to help you with more in technical online marketing campaigns to help you generate more qualified leads.
2. Phone Calls
Selling by phone can be a bit tricky. If you don’t know what a good sales call sounds like, you will not have success with this method. Grabbing a phone book and calling people at random is a waste of time and energy. You need to research the numbers you are calling to be sure the people who answer may be interested in your product.
For example: if you are selling roofing supplies only call people in residential neighborhoods, home builders, or companies that may benefit from your service. If you just go through the phonebook at random you may wind up calling someone that rents an apartment, and that is not beneficial to you. You need to sound professional and get straight to the point.
Introduce yourself and give a brief summary of your product and the price. This will give the person on the other end all of the information they need to decide if they want to continue the call. Additionally, offer to send them something or set up another appointment when they might have more time to speak with you in greater detail about this opportunity.
This ensures that you do not waste your breath, time, and energy on people who are not interested in your product or don’t have the money to spend. A good way to generate more than one sale per phone call is by leaving your contact information. If they are interested in the product but can’t buy while on the phone right then, or they have friends that may be interested in the product they know how to get a hold of you later.
Follow up calls show that you care about the person and are critical to selling successfully via phone calls. One phone call can be forgotten, but five phone calls requesting a meeting may get you the meeting you have been asking for.
3. Promotional Products
You can always give out your business card, flyers or promotional products to people who may be interested. If you are selling vitamins you may want to give flyers and promotional products to people that frequent the gym, health food stores or athletic competitions. You may be surprised how many viable leads this creates.
People respond to sales much better if they are approached in person. You may have to spend money on the flyers, business cards, key chains, pens or any other promotional items that advertise your product, but it will bring in much needed interested customers.
